Who We Are

The Athlete Leaders Network (ALN) exists to advance education, support community development, and promote positive wellbeing through sport, leadership and advocacy.

We connect athlete leaders and sporting communities across Aotearoa to share knowledge, strengthen safe and inclusive environments, and encourage participation - particularly for young people, under-resourced sports, and groups who face barriers to accessing opportunities.

Led by current and former athletes, ALN equips athlete leaders with skills in advocacy, mentoring, and leadership so they can make a positive contribution to their sport and wider communities. While many of our members have experience in high-performance environments, their knowledge is used to support public benefit through education programmes, role modelling, capability-building, and community outreach.

Our interaction focuses on empowering athletes to use their lived experiences to support others and foster equitable access to sporting opportunities, and strengthen the broader wellbeing of all engaged in sport

Our Strategy

Our first strategic plan for the Athlete Leaders Network as an independent “By Athletes, For Athletes” organisation where success will be measured by well equipped athlete leaders who influence decision making for their sport and fellow athletes increasing engagement, satisfaction and wellbeing.
